A tricky Toledo Bend awaits Elite Anglers
This waterway holds some BIG BASS. Throughout practice there’s been plenty of 8 pounders caught as well as reports of a 9 and 13 pounder.Toldeo Bend is currently flooded and that has pushed the bait over fresh bank vegetation which brings shallow fishing into play. In addition to this some bigger bass had already moved out to the deep. Similar to Wheeler Lake there will be plenty of techniques and lures that deliver stand out results.
2014 Winner Jacob Powroznik’s weighed 79lb 12oz but no one would be surprised this year if the winning weight hits the 100 pound plus mark.
For a spectator this makes for some very exciting fishing. For the Elite Angler it means one thing “adapt”. The weather and bass could be on a vastly different pattern from practice and you may need to chase a new pattern everyday of this tournament to hit the all important cut.
Carl aiming for another cut!
As we get ready for a launch tonight at Toledo Carl is aiming to make his fourth TOP 50 cut. His fishing with confidence and is sitting 61st in the Angler of the Year race, he must remain in the Top 70 AOY to qualify to fish the Elites in 2017 and a Top 30 this year will see him fish the Bassmaster Classic. A good result here could see him rocket up the AOY leaderboard
In his video earlier today Carl said his prefish while difficult in the flooded conditions delivered some good results and estimates around 15 pounds a day will be needed to make the 50 Cut. Carl has a couple of solid spots if he gets the opportunity to fish them. Carl’s instincts have been fierce this year and the results are on the board. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some “Big Bass” hit the BassCat deck tonight!!!
As Alton Jones said on Bassmaster;
“You could have somebody win this tournament who figures it out on the fly and do something different than what they were able to do in practice.”
Kelly Jordan said;
“For a bass tournament, that’s great. It’s going to be wide open.”
Tonight Carl will be taking off around 9:15pm Aussie time or 6:15am USA time.
