When I won the Australian @abttournaments Grand Final In 2008 I knew my destiny was to make it to the Bassmaster Elites in the USA. I bought this giant map of the USA and put it up on my wall at home in Australia. @mikeiaconelli Never Give Up Classic picture was tapped to the bottom of it.
At 25 years old I’d never left Australia before, I would look at and study the map every day for a year while I was preparing and saving money to make my first trip. Looking at all the lakes that Bassmaster was going to and where I thought I needed to be fishing. My first year here I had it rolled up in the back seat of my truck and used it to find my way around the country. I think back now to how crazy I must have been, I sold everything I owned in Aus and saved money from working in the tackle store, we did fundraisers from the fishing community to help make it happen. That money lasted me about one year and it was gone and I had to go home.
The only thing I did different to most is I just didn’t quit, I kept fighting no matter what adversity’s I faced. This adversity has molded me into the man, the brother, the son, the friend and future husband to Kayla I am today, without it there is no growth.
Hard to believe I’m on my ninth year here and back on the Elites and set for our biggest year yet, I have proven every doubter wrong and we are only just getting started. My advice to anyone trying to do big things in this life is to enjoy the process, instead of saying “why me” when bad thing happen, think “what is this trying to teach me” We cant wait to get this year started, only a week away from making the road trip to Florida for the first event!
Thank you to everyone who has been apart of this journey so far, let’s go have another exciting year!
