Good mate and Bass fishing rising star @nickhat47 came down for the day to swap some techniques and catch some Bass. Nick wants to put the Glidebait in his tournament arsenal and I’m always looking to improve my offshore game. Half day shallow half day deep was the plan and we both come away better anglers.
In the first 5 minutes of throwing the Glide I was explaining what I have learnt the past few years that convert followers into eaters. While I’m explaining the sequence this giant comes from the depths at the end of my retrieve, she pauses 6 feet from the boat and a few inches off the bait. We freeze, I twitch the glide and she eats it in front of our eyes. One of the most insane visuals you will get in Bass fishing.
She was the longest and largest bodied Bass I’d seen, at 26 inches long she weighed 9 1/2lbs. At the right time of year she will be a true giant. A fish like this doesn’t come by accident, you need the right gear and my first recommendation for throwing big baits is get a specific outfit built to do the job. I think I have one of the best setups on the market, @millerods_usa DreamFreaK, @shimano.fish Tranx 300 5:8.1 25lb Gamma Fluro and your favorite Swimbait.
This is what fishing is all about, learn something new every day you can and enjoy the process.
