For the month of May @bass_nation is running a cool photo deal for each day! 🎣📸
Today is best Non Bass Catch, I had to do some digging but I found one of the most special fish captures of my life! I was around 18 years old working at the local tackle store when the news station wanted to do a story on the fishing at my home lake, Cressbrook Dam! I knew this place like the back of my hand and had spent every waking minute out there since I was a very young kid.
Fishing a Bassman Spinnerbait I hooked this absolute monster Mary River Cod, one of the rarest freshwater species we have in Australia and are still on the endangered list. Most commonly grow to around 30lb at their very largest but this fish was well beyond that and since have never seen one that has come close. I had to send evidences to a hatchery that didn’t believe it was a Mary River Cod they were sure it was the more common species the Murray Cod. Turns out it was the largest one that they had ever seen also.
A special catch that I will remember forever.
