The most frustrating part of last week was the bite was right in my wheelhouse of what I love to do, I’ve been honing my skills for this style of fishing since I can remember. If your way off it doesn’t hurt as bad because you learn so much from it, but I found all the right fish on the inland sea of Champlain and put most of my practice time finding all the small detailed things I needed to. I knew it was going to go down there, the bait and the way the fish were setting up and how fat they were getting from feeding up after spawn. I was around the majority of guys that made top 20s doing the same thing, Brandon even let me fish the eventual winning area on day one. I just didn’t get the bites on that second day and I don’t really know why.
You can’t have a single bad day on the Elite series, one slip and I’m near dead last and dropped over 20 places in AOY. Frustrating sport sometimes that can have no explanation, you just have to pick yourself up off the canvas and be ready to go at the next one.
